Google has finished the design of the Tensor G5 SoC, the chip that will be in next year's Pixel 10. The chip is ready to be sent to a foundry for manufacturing, which is made by TSMC, by the way.
Google Tensor G5 design is ready and will appear next year
Information about the completed design process comes from Taiwan. The Pixel 10 series will be the first to use this processor. Of course, it will then appear in other Pixel products.
The chip is manufactured using TSMC's second-generation 3nm node, also known as N3E. The chip is expected to bring a big step forward compared to other chips Google has developed so far. It is Google's own development, and TSMC's second-generation 3nm node is the right way to make it.
The Google Tensor G5 is probably a chip that Google is hoping will compete with the best processors on the market. This is expected to be very powerful and designed exclusively for Pixel products. Pixel users have had to deal with some questionable SoCs in the past, but Google wants to change that. The Exynos 5123 model in the Pixel 6 series definitely comes to mind, which was part of the Tensor chips. The Exynos 5300 was an improvement, but still not the best solution. It was featured in the Pixel 7 and Pixel 8 series smartphones.
What's happening now? Well, even if the chip is ready for production, Google has to test it after the fact. The Tensor G4 is not on the market yet, so we probably won't see this chip in action for a long time.
The Tensor G4 will be released next month alongside the Pixel 9 series. Google has announced that the new Pixel smartphone will be officially released on August 13th. This marks a big change for Google as everyone was expecting the device to launch in early October.
