Google is rolling out the new Pixel Camera 9.4 update with new features and optimizations for select devices, including the Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 7 Pro, and Pixel Fold. While the update is part of the Pixel Feature Drop, it looks like the latest camera improvements are rolling out to users now.

Pixel Camera 9.4 update brings Pro Lens Selection feature and improved HDR+ experience
Yesterday, 9to5Google reported that the Pixel Camera 9.4 update is rolling out to some users. First off, the latest update adds the ability to manually select lenses to the Pixel 6/7 Pro and Pixel Fold. While this may not seem like the biggest improvement, it does provide clarity when choosing a specific lens for your shoot. With the Pixel Camera 9.4 update, you can now choose from three lens setting options, including UW (Ultra Wide), W (Wide), and T (Telephoto).

The lens selection options can be found in the new Pro tab, right next to the General tab. When you select Pro mode, three new lens options "UW, W, T" will appear in the zoom pill above the camera shutter. The new lens options replace the zoom pill in manual mode, so you'll need to use a pinch gesture to zoom in and out.

The Pixel Camera 9.4 update also improves HDR+ frame selection. This means your Pixel phone can recognize the best moments in a photo with HDR+, so you can capture more photos with smiles and open eyes.

The latest update also includes changes to the RAW/JPEG picker.
Additionally, you'll also notice some changes related to RAW and JPEG photo settings. For instance, the RAW/JPEG picker is moved to the Pro tab, which is usually found under Settings > More. This makes it much easier to switch between them if you want to edit your photos later. Not to forget, there is no resolution setting as found on the Google Pixel 8 Pro.

Overall, the Pixel Camera 9.4 update is slowly rolling out to users. So, if you're lucky, you'll have access to the new settings in the Pixel Camera app. However, keep in mind that simply downloading the latest Pixel Camera update, version 9.4.103.641377609.23, won't bring you any new features.

So, we recommend you either get the June Pixel Feature Drop or wait for Google to make the update available through a server-side update. But one thing is for sure: With the new improvements, capturing moments on your Pixel device will be a lot more fun in the future.
