  •  Nothing's social media teases an upcoming device that could be the Phone 3, with hints from CEO Carl Pei about new features and designs.
  •  Recent teasers show a mysterious device with a visible screw, sparking speculation about the Phone 3 or a new sub-brand phone.
  •  Leaked details suggest the CMF Phone 1 may offer a budget-friendly option with features like OLED display and replaceable back covers.

London, UK-based Nothing’s social media is a one-stop shop for teasing upcoming devices. We’ve already seen Nothing teasing the first Nothing Phone 1 on Twitter and in blurry YouTube videos, as well as Nothing 2a in a community update video. Just recently, Nothing CEO Carl Pei dropped subtle hints about the company’s next smartphone, possibly the Nothing Phone 3.

Pei shared a few photos of the redesigned Quick Settings UI using Nothing Phone’s outline template, and eagle-eyed users took notice. It was immediately noticed that the phone has an extra button that is not available on the Nothing Phone 1, Phone 2, or Phone 2a. Now, the teaser train is heating up as Nothing’s official X T̶w̶i̶t̶t̶e̶r account shared an image that could hint at the company’s plans.

The account shared an image of what appears to be an in-development device with visible screws. The tweet's caption reads "3,2,1," which could indicate that the device is coming soon. At first glance, the device in the tweet doesn't look like a smartphone.

Adding such an ungainly screw to the back of the device would take up a lot of space and wouldn't make much sense from a design perspective. However, this isn't the first time we've seen an unconventional and eye-catching design from the smartphone maker, leading many to believe that this could be a smartphone. However, there has been speculation that the image could show the company's first tablet, which at first glance appears to be a laptop base plate.

A second cryptic tweet quickly followed, which didn't explicitly say what the next device would be, but hinted that it would be a smartphone. The tweet just shows a phone and screw emoji.

Nothing The Phone 1 and Phone 2 were released in July, so it makes sense that the company would start announcing its next device now. This is speculation, but the company and the screws could indicate that the device will be hassle-free repairable, similar to the Fairphone 5.

The device could be sold under Nothing's sub-brand CMF

We already know that the CMF sub-brand will follow a different product design language than Nothing. We also know that the sub-brand is preparing its first smartphone, which is expected to be priced at around INR 12,000 (~$140). The device with the side button similar to the action button could be the Nothing Phone 3, while the device with screws shown in the new X post could be the first official look of the CMF Phone 1, believes X leaker @Technerd_9 (via GSM Arena).

According to the leaker, the device will feature a 6.7-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and thick bezels. It will reportedly be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7200 chipset, which is in line with previous leaks we reported. The leaker also suggests that the device will have a 5,000mAh battery with 33W charging. These details line up with previous leaks.

More importantly, the device will reportedly have a replaceable plastic back cover and a locking system in the bottom-right corner of the device, which Nothing likely wants to highlight in its teaser tweet. In other regions, the device will reportedly be priced starting at Rs 20,000, or roughly $240.

It's worth noting that the leaker has not reported on any information previously shared and cannot speak to its reliability. So be careful with leaks, but if the leaks turn out to be true, the CMF Phone 1 looks like a solid and pocket-friendly device.
